ABSTRACT |
This paper presents the optimum pole and slot combination of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) for electrical power steering (EPS) applications. To do this, the characteristics of three PMSMs, which have the same performance but different pole and slot combinations, are compared. The characteristics such as the cogging torque and radial force of each model are obtained by finite element analysis. The results showed that the pole and slot combination presented in this paper satisfies the performance required in the EPS without rotor or stator skew while minimizing the space harmonics of the radial force with critical with respect to the noise and vibration. The validity of the analysis results is verified by test. |
