ABSTRACT
As the proportion of electric vehicles (EVs) in automobile market increases, many users are using EVs recently. Unlike the past, when only a few brands and models of EVs could be experienced, EVs with various brands and characteristics are being released. This is possible thanks to dedicated EV platforms developed by various brands. The platform dedicated to EV is configured by placing a high-voltage battery in the center of the vehicle and placing a motor and an inverter front or rear of the vehicle. This arrangement can be seen similarly in all EVs around the world. But their detailed designs vary. High-voltage battery used in EV have more diversity in their designs, especially because various types of battery cells are applied. In this study, the structural performance of high-voltage battery of EV with various shapes and configurations is analyzed and compared because this performance is highly related to the safety of EV. Digital models of various battery packs are developed so that the performance could be analyzed and compared without actual production and experiment. Also, various battery packs are classified into several types, and the characteristics of each type are also examined through this study.
Key Words: Battery pack · Battery module · Battery cell · Stiffness of battery pack · Horizontal type of battery pack · Vertical type of battery pack · Mixed type of battery pack · Lattice type of battery pack
