ABSTRACT
In this study, a thermal mathematical model is presented to predict the transient temperature differences between the inner surface of the pressure tube and the outer surface of the outer tube under damping forces in twin-tube shock absorbers used in the automotive industry. The experimental setup uses the different setting of Hydraulic Rebound Stop (HRS) to produce different damping forces. The HRS feature increases the hydraulic resistance by reducing the pressure tube volume during the rebound stroke, thus providing additional hydraulic resistance and causing more heat generation compared to standard shock absorbers. This additional energy dissipation is converted into heat, leading to a higher internal temperature increase. The developed model allows the temperature evolution on both the inner and outer surfaces to be predicted over time. The experimental setup uses different settings of the Hydraulic Rebound Stop (HRS) to generate different damping forces.
