ABSTRACT |
The Reinforced Thin-walled Hat-shaped Section (RTHS) beams is widely used in automobile body. The
bending collapse characteristic of the RTHS beams plays an important role in the crashworthiness. The paper focuses on the
theoretical analysis on the bending collapse characteristic of the RTHS beams. This paper presents a method to produce the
maximum bending strength of the RTHS beams. And then a theoretical analysis of the bending collapse characteristic is
presented on two bending collapse modes of the RTHS beams with the kinematic approach. The accuracy of the theoretical
calculations is validated through the comparison with quasi-static bending finite element simulations on 24 different beams
with three kinds of materials, three different section dimensions and thicknesses. The theoretical solution shows good
agreement with the finite element analysis results. |
